While Jay handles all variety of Virginia criminal and traffic matters for Scrofano Law PC, the most commonly charged cases in Arlington, Alexandria, and Fairfax are Reckless Driving and Driving Under the Influence (DUI). Reckless Driving is a class one misdemeanor in Virginia, which carries a penalty of up to 1 year in jail, a $2,500 fine or both. In addition, your license may be suspended for up to 6 months. It is so commonly charged in Virginia, because it is very easy to violate the Commonwealth’s reckless driving law.
Anyone caught driving 80 miles per hour, or 20 miles-per-hour over the speed limit can be found guilty of reckless driving. While jail time is fairly rare in these cases, the possible repercussions of a misdemeanor conviction make this a serious charge in Virginia. Jay also handles many Virginia DUI cases for Scrofano Law PC.
Like Reckless Driving, DUI in Virginia is also a class one misdemeanor and carries the same maximum jail sentence of 1 year. Perhaps more importantly, drivers convicted of a DUI in Virginia will have their license suspended for 1 year, and must have an ignition interlock installed on their vehicle. While DUI defense can be complex, Jay’s skill and experience allow him to meet the challenges posed by your case.
